The cacti out the casita window.

Nowadays we experienced a winter weather warning. There might be a foot of snow higher than the 3,500 foot stage. However, we’re at 3,000 elevation so I feel it’ll overlook us. I have to look at with our buddies just one mile up the hill to uncover out if they get snow.

When we moved to Arizona this 7 days two years ago, we were being amazed to see styrofoam cups on cactus. We requested people about it while we had been out on walks. We figured out that cactus like warm weather (duh). They die from the major if it gets underneath freezing. The styrofoam cups give a bit of security and insulation. Some men and women get inventive and put Santa hats on them, or wrap them completely in material.

It’s intended to freeze at night this 7 days, so it was time to get out our cups and guard our cacti. At least the styrofoam cups are reusable!

Last week we were being out strolling and satisfied a pair we have observed, but under no circumstances stopped to chat to. The partner warned us of the chilly weather conditions and questioned if we have heat tape.

“Heat tape?” my partner and I each asked. We’d under no circumstances listened to of it dwelling in Palm Springs for the previous 37 a long time.

The spouse obtained out her apple iphone and began to exhibit us photographs from a storm they had a several decades just before we moved listed here. They bought feet — as in multiple ft of snow. Their neighbors’ water pipes burst and built eery patterns as drinking water froze in the air. This pair is at first from Minnesota so they had been ready with their heat tape.

We obtained guidelines to go to Ace Components, buy heat tape and wrap our drinking water pipes. I’m urging my spouse to do that now, just before nightfall!
