It is official. We remaining California for Arizona two decades ago! I cannot believe how rapidly our several years flew by — and in some respects how long it has appeared.

Here’s what I considered about relocating two years back right now:

Moving van
The relocating van arrived.

Friday was moving day. Our movers arrived at 9 a.m. and we assumed it would be a few several hours and we’d strike the highway. No, we were being wrong. By 5 p.m. the movers recognized their truck was full and we still had a bunch of stuff in the garage like bikes, a wheelbarrow and my daughter’s desk. Furthermore the STORAGE Device where we’ve been squirreling away boxes and stuff for months.

Yikes! The movers experienced to rent a U-Haul and we gave them the keys to our storage device. Of program there weren’t any U-Hauls in town and they had to generate to San Diego or some position to locate a U-Haul. They stated they’d arrive again to our California dwelling the upcoming early morning and pick up the relaxation of our stuff in the garage when our housekeeper and dear friend Delia would be cleansing.

We drove to Arizona and our new household, minus our home furniture that evening. We fortunately packed suitcases and bedding. Our fellow swim crew parents and shut friends drove a person of our cars and trucks packed to the hilt, as well as their automobile full with all the things from our freezer and fridge. Now, these are correct buddies who volunteer to push an 8-hour round journey to make our move a lot easier!

I have driving panic and worry attacks driving on freeways. I could not encounter the 4-hour push on Interstate 10. Our daughter promised to fly down from SFO and drive one particular vehicle and help us unpack. Then California went into lockdown. Our daughter did not really feel excellent about traveling. So our buddies volunteered to assist us out and in the meantime our daughter’s intended flight was cancelled. It all worked out in the finish.

Our new living space. So considerably get the job done to do!

We acquired to our Arizona house at 10:30 p.m. We unpacked our suitcases, settled into mattress all-around midnight exhausted beyond comprehension. Thank goodness we purchased the household furniture in the casita from the sellers. In any other case, we’d have been on the flooring. We never ever saw our mates who drove our auto for us. They not only drove our automobile, but they crammed our fridge with all our condiments, frozen meals and perishables — in advance of heading again to California.

The upcoming working day, the transferring van and U-haul arrived at 2 p.m. We labored all over the weekend to get the kitchen area in get and our closet structured. Kitty is stressed and hiding beneath the bed in the casita, where by we have been residing.

My new backyard as the solar begins to set.

I do not endorse going just after residing in a single dwelling for 28 years. It is an unusually challenging activity, mentally and physically. But, when we’re additional settled the sunsets will make it all worthwhile.

What is the longest you’ve lived in a person location? How did you take care of packing and heading via a long time of things when you moved? Did you consider of moving during the COVID shutdowns? A good deal of individuals did move.
